With a brand new album under their belt and a mammoth Australian tour just wrapped up, it was only a matter of time until Northlane dropped into the triple j studios for Like a Version.

The Sydney outfit certainly made it count: they took on The Vines’ 2002 track ‘Get Free’, giving the classic rock tune a well deserved metal kick up the arse. They stick fairly close to the original arrangement, but Marcus Bridge’s vocals and the wails of distortion lend it a frenetic new edge.

They also tore through ‘4D’, off their new release Alien — watch both tracks below.

It’s the latest in a pretty great run of Like a Versions. Last week Hermitude did the impossible and managed to pull off a cover of Nirvana’s ‘Heart-Shaped Box’, the week before Dominic Fike gloriously covered Clairo’s ‘Bags’, and right before that, Angie McMahon put her loving spin on ABBA’s ‘Knowing Me Knowing You’ (honestly, ABBA needs to feature more heavily in Like a Version).

As for Northlane, this month they’re up for an ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal album for Alien, alongside acts like DZ Deathrays, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Clowns. They’re also just about to jet over to Europe for a stack of shows across the continent — get around all the dates and details here.
