The Saw series of movies are based around the increasingly convoluted and excessive murder machines created by serial killer Jigsaw and his acolytes to enact (often ironic) revenge on those they feel have gone against society’s grain; drug dealers, hit and run drivers, abusive parents, arsonists and those exploiting the sick and poor have all felt the brunt of his deathtraps. \

But in his very first film, Jigsaw saved his most brutal vengeance for Cary Elwes’s character, Dr Lawrence Gordon. His reason? Gordon was a doctor who told terminal patients (such as Jigsaw) that they were, well, terminal. Clearly Jigsaw didn’t take the news well.
