Nine Highly Questionable Justifications For Revenge In Action Movies

Hollywood loves revenge so much they don’t care how they get to it. Usually they’re happy to motivate the good guy simply by having the bad guys murder his or her lover. Sometimes their whole family has to die to get the ball rolling; other times they get a little more creative.

In John Wick, Keanu Reeves (as Wick) takes out the Russian mob and most of the hitman population of New York because they killed his dog. This dog.

This dog is responsible for the deaths of over seventy people.

And yet, even killing a cute puppy is nowhere near the bottom of the depths Hollywood is willing to sink when it comes to inspiring revenge. Sure, sometimes you just want to get the motivation out of the way and get straight to the killing, but if you can’t come up with a better reason for a kill-spree than these ones, maybe you need to re-watch Death Wish a few times.
