The New ‘Homeland’ Trailer Is A Little Unsettling In Its Accuracy
(Well, except when it comes to the gender of the president.)
Judging by the trailer, season six of spy thriller Homeland, does not seem to be shying away from depicting the current political climate.
Although they perhaps incorrectly predicted that the US would elect a female president in 2016, the main plot of the new season of Homeland appears to be about terrible things happening before a presidential inauguration, for a leader who wants to reform the CIA, much to the chagrin of the CIA.
Hm, sounds familiar.

The new season will premiere on the same week as Donald Trump’s inauguration, which sounds like fun and non-stressful timing. The synopsis is as follows:
After she thwarted a terrorist attack in Berlin, season six picks up several months later and finds Carrie Mathison (Danes) back on American soil, living in Brooklyn, New York. She has begun working at a foundation whose efforts are to provide aid to Muslims living in the US season six will tackle the after effects of the US presidential election, with the entire season taking place between election day and the inauguration. It’s a strange, transitional time in the halls of government filled with anxiety and different competing interests, where a very fragile and complex transfer of power takes place between the outgoing president and the incoming president-elect.
Is it possible that the creators of Homeland did think that Hillary Clinton would win and wanted to depict a worst case scenario of a controversial inauguration? Perhaps! Let’s just hope that Carrie can hold it together for long enough to save the day.
