Netflix’s Password Changes Will Be Hitting Australia “In The Coming Months”
Looks like everyone might need to learn what a torrent is again.
Batten down the hatches, mateys, because it’s looking closer and closer to a pirate’s life for Australians once again.
We were once known for being the world’s leading nation of pirates, and thanks to Netflix’s latest password sharing update it might be time to reclaim that clown.
Netflix has been giving off a threatening aura to crack down on password-sharing thieves for a while now, despite tweeting “Love is sharing a password” back in 2017. And it looks like it may finally be crunch time.

The same Netflix Twitter account posted that they were rolling out the features in “Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain” and “more broadly” in the coming months, so Australia wasn’t mentioned specifically. But their official Australian and New Zealand Facebook page shared the same sentiment with an actual mention of Australia. Rude!
So what will these rules actually look like? According to this pic shared by a Canadian Reddit user, it looks like users will be prompted to confirm their primary location, as described in the updated rules. Anyone detected to not be at this primary location will probably be logged out or asked to log in at that same primary location until they get hit with the prompt again, which will most likely happen on a monthly basis.

Well, Netflix, it’s been fun. With Binge, Stan, Prime Video, and Disney to contend with, I’m not sure where Netflix will end up on the hierarchy of streaming platforms. I suppose you gotta do what you gotta do, and when you play the Game Of Thrones you win or you die. Wait, Game of Thrones is only available on Binge. Never mind.
