Neon Genesis Evangelion Is Coming To Netflix In Australia
Get in the fucking robot, Shinji.
Netflix has just announced that the classic 1995 mecha anime Neon Genesis Evangelion will be made available to stream on the service next year — and we’ve since confirmed that this includes Australia. All 26 episodes of the original mindscrew of an anime, as well as sequel movies The End of Evangelion and Evangelion: Death (True)2, will be added to Netflix Australia early next year, giving fans an opportunity to rewatch the series and try to figure out that damn ending once and for all.
Set in the then-future of 2015, Neon Genesis Evangelion focuses on 14-year-old Shinji Ikari, a quiet boy who pilots a giant robot called an Eva to defend humanity from giant monsters called Angels. He also has a severely messed up relationship with his parents. It’s one of the most iconic series in anime history, and also one of the most confusing, filled with giant robots, religious imagery, psychoanalysis, masturbation, and a very large penguin.
Despite its status as a classic, Neon Genesis Evangelion was previously unavailable on any streaming service. Those who wished to watch it had to hunt down a physical copy as though they lived in the Dark Ages. The show’s availability on Netflix, one of the most popular streaming services in the world, will soon let a whole new audience experience the bewilderment for the first time.
One of the most memorable parts of the series was its absolute banger of an opening song, ‘A Cruel Angel’s Thesis’ by Yoko Takahashi, which goes with pretty much anything. So, of course, fans are already sharing memes in celebration of the series’ streaming debut.

Netflix, don't put a skip intro button for EVA. I will never skip it and I want to make it so others don't have the option to skip Cruel Angel's Thesis even if they want to. Even if they're desperate to skip it, don't let them skip it Netflix. NETFLIX! Don't let them skip it.
