2023 might have been the year of movies, but 2024 will be the year of TV shows, mark my words.

Last year was tough for the show business industry, with strikes delaying the production of movies and TV shows. But now the strikes have finished, Hollywood is up and roaring again. How delightful for us. It also means that 2024 will be filled with many TV shows as production companies pump out new and previously delayed content.

Some of the biggest TV shows of 2023 were The Last of Us, Succession, Beef, and Ted Lasso. But this year, we have new seasons of some of our favorites, like You, Bridgerton, and The Bear — and fresh ones to sink our teeth into, like Expats, The Regime, and The Brothers Sun. It looks like we will be glued to our couches this year.

But which of these 2024 shows will be the biggest? Our predictions:

The Bear Season 3

After winning big at the 81st Golden Globes, The Bear will undoubtedly be one of the biggest and best TV shows of 2024.

Research showed that in 2023, viewers wanted to watch new seasons of their favorite TV shows. We will see that again in 2024, primarily with highly anticipated returns like The Bear to our screens. There’s some comfort in feeling like you belong to a part of their world. Personally, I don’t think I could last a day in The Bear. I’d have a complete nervous breakdown.

Feud: Capote vs The Swans

I can smell the awards Feud: Capote vs The Swans will collect next year. There’s nothing I love seeing more than rich women in New York. The ladies of Real Housewives of New York, Gossip Girl, and Sex and the City have nothing on the Capote women.

Directed by Gus Van Sant and written by Jon Robin Baitz, the Ryan Murphy saga features a stellar cast that includes Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Demi Moore, Molly Ringwald, Calista Flockhart, and my icon, Jessica Lange. It’s also inspired by Laurence Leamer’s Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era. Audiences seem to love a series based on a book, so I expect this show to be one of the most talked about in 2024.

Hacks Season 3

The announcement of the third season of Hacks cleared my skin and shone a light into my life. This show has already become a queer cult classic, so there’s no doubt in my mind that the third and final season of Hacks will change my life. Not to be dramatic.

Abbott Elementary Season 3

Much like The Bear, Abbott Elementary has captured viewers’ hearts, and its third season cannot come soon enough. I never expected a show about a primary school in America would be as funny as it is, but Quinta Brunson is a genius whose powers know no bounds.

You Season 5

You has managed to be one of the most talked about shows every year. With this fifth season being its last, there’s no way You won’t be the number one Netflix show upon release.

The last season truly shocked and gagged me. The twists! I cannot wait to see whose lives Joe ruins this year. He’s back in New York, a big win for the Big Apple, but not because he will probably try to kill everyone.

Arcane Season 2

TV shows about video games won significantly in 2023. The Last Of Us was all anyone could discuss for a few months. I, however, became obsessed with Arcane.

The show follows the origin story of two League of Legends champions who find themselves on opposite sides of an upcoming war. Oh, it turns out they are also sisters. Talk about a family feud. I need Season 2 right now.

The Brothers Sun

Anything with Michelle Yeoh in it deserves every award, for she is a legend, icon, and mother to all of us.

The Brothers Sun is about the son of a murdered Taiwanese triad, Charles, who tries to protect his mother and brother — utterly unaware of his family’s double life. It looks like the action show of my dreams. And again, Michelle Yeoh is in it. That should be enough reason for you.

Expats

Two words: Nicole Kidman. Two more words: Hong Kong. One word: expats. Do I need to say more?

Masters of the Air

Master of the Air is attractive because although I’ve heard nothing about this WWII TV show, just about everyone alive is in it. Austin Butler, Barry Keoghan, Ncuti Gatwa… and even Steven Spielberg’s son Sawyer Speilberg and Jude Law’s son Rafferty Law are in it — a big win for Nepo babies and Austin Butler’s Elvis voice.

Suppose there are two things audiences love: war shows and heartthrobs. Masters of the Air has got both.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16

I can’t do a list of the biggest TV shows of 2024 and not include my beloved RuPaul’s Drag Race. It’s hard to believe we’re already up to Season 16, but given the premiere pulled the highest ratings in six years, there seems to be no end to Drag Race’s impact.

Avatar the Last Airbender

All of my childhood dreams will either come true or be smashed into a million pieces when the live adaption of Avatar the Last Airbender comes out. The trailer looks exquisite, but I’ve been burnt by bad live remakes before. Either way, I’m sure it’ll be one of the biggest shows of 2024.

The Regime

Kate Winslet as a European authoritarian chancellor in a political satire drama? Oh, I best believe I will be seated to watch The Regime. From all accounts, The Regime looks like a combination of Veep, Succession, The Great, and The Grand Budapest Hotel all wrapped up into one incredible show.

Bridgerton Season 3

We are finally getting the Penelope and Colin romance we’ve been begging for, and I cannot wait for my social media feeds to be filled with Bridgerton scenes and hot takes again.

Bridgerton was one of the biggest shows 2023, so we can only expect and hope for the same success for the upcoming season.

House of the Dragon Season 2

Humans are fickle, but certain things will always be accurate, one being that any show related to Game of Thrones will achieve unmeasurable success.

As someone who has never watched a single episode of Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, I know how much people talk about it. It fills every facet of my life, and I find no escape from hearing about dragons and the Targaryens. I fear 2024 will be yet another year of me cowering in fear while I tell people I haven’t watched the new season of House of the Dragon.
