A Message From Music Junkee
It's goodbye to Music Junkee, and hello Check Check.
This week, a shift is coming to music at Junkee.
For 22 years now, music has been at the heart of Junkee — from the creation of the incredible force that was inthemix back in 2000, through to FasterLouder and Mess + Noise, and now in Music Junkee, our dedication to the community, the artists, and the music has never wavered.
As we wrote on this site only a few years ago, evolution is in our DNA. The only constant in this world is change, and over the last year we have reevaluated our approach to music coverage and considered how best to serve our audience the content they love about the bands and festivals they love. Times change, platforms evolve, and what the audience craves, shifts.
So, to that end, we’ll be rebranding and relaunching Music Junkee as a new standalone masthead: Check Check.
Check Check will meet the audience where they are, with a strong focus on social and video content. We’re also excited to be moving into the podcast space, and will be launching two music podcasts in the coming months — more details on those will come down the line. Rest assured, our written content will not go anywhere: Music Junkee earned a reputation for meaningful and thoughtful longform content, and it is absolutely our intention to keep that tradition going at Check Check.
We are incredibly proud of the work we’ve done on Music Junkee — from articles examining the ongoing question of what to do about Dr. Luke, to discussions of #MeToo in Australian music, to investigations about stan culture and deep dives into Australia’s music history, to the many, many profiles and interviews that we have consistently featured. We hope you have loved them as much as we have.
Check Check will be led by Jules LeFevre, who was recently promoted to Head of Content at Junkee, and who worked on inthemix and FasterLouder as a staff writer before becoming editor of Music Junkee, and then Junkee. At our new home of Scout Publishing, we are excited to see Check Check grow into the awesome music community we know it can be.
You can follow Check Check on Instagram and TikTok, and we’ll see you on the ground at Splendour in a few days’ time.
