This Hilarious ‘Mr. Postman’ TikTok Meme Combines Two Iconic Vine Videos
"Me drunkenly adding singing videos to my story vs me watching them the next morning."
If you remember the good old Vine days, you’ll definitely know the song ‘Mr. Postman‘ by The Marvelettes.
During the heyday of Vine, two covers of ‘Mr. Postman’ took over the app. First, there was the passionate front porch rendition by the late Henderson English and then there was Gi-weezy‘s roadside attempt.
Gi-weezy’s six-second clip was a copy of the viral video of four Rosa Parks High School students rehearsing the song complete with dance moves. The start of the video was also uploaded onto Vine, which inspired Gi-weezy’s iconic parody on the app.
After Vine broke down and the six-second rule was no more, Instagram pages started to combine the videos to create a new meme. Some pages even combined, objectively, worse covers of the song to prove their point.
These combined videos and their audio tracks basically acted as the perfect template for comparison memes. The first sound, crisp and perfect, and the second sound… well… not so much.
Now we come to TikTok, the app that allows you to upload external audio and create video up to 60 seconds long. Once user @ahmexium made a video about superior star signs with the combined audio, everyone was all over it.
It even inspired friendship trio Leah, Molly and Regan to remake their own combined version of the audio.
Which, as expected, took off straight away.
People started to use the two versions of ‘Mr. Postman’ to highlight some serious glow-downs.
And, thankfully, some glorious glow-ups too.
People even used ‘Mr. Postman’ to point out the contrast between everyday things like soft drink flavours, food in different locations, and, of course, boomers.
Thank God for TikTok ensuring that the memory of Vine never dies.
