Because Life Is Tough, You Deserve A Video Of A Monkey And His Human Friend Whispering Secrets

We live in dark, confused times — but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t get to enjoy ourselves every once in a while. Which is exactly what the internet is doing right now, thanks to a video of a monkey and his human buddy having a good old gossip.

I mean, at this point in an article, I’d usually give some preamble, setting up the video and putting it in its context. But to be honest, I don’t know what context I could possibly provide that would make this video any better than it already is.

Chances are, this is a trained monkey doing a trick — monkeys are of course both very smart, and very treat-focussed, making it pretty easy to get them to perform all manner of complex feats. But hey, it’s equally possible that this monkey has some firebomb gossip that it wants to share, and we’re watching two mates trade unbelievable secrets.

Also, the science nerd in me has to note that monkeys do genuinely whisper. The behaviour was noted in a brace of primates who would speak to one another at a lower volume while around “zoo staff that they disliked”.
