The high-brow cathedral of renaissance art suffered a humiliating blow yesterday after a climate protester managed to evade security at the Louvre and smear cake onto the Mona Lisa.

Leonardo da Vinci’s painting is one of the most expensive artworks in the world — and no stranger to vandalism either, with prior attempts involving rocks, spray paint and even a ceramic teacup. But despite the painting’s lengthy number of foes, it’s never had an opponent that was so… fabulous.

Like something out of Zoolander, the unknown protester worked his way to the painting by disguising himself as an old woman in a wheelchair, then leaping out and slipping behind a security barricade. Witnesses say that despite being within arms reach of the artwork, the protester was foiled by the bulletproof glass protecting the painting and after failing to break it only managed to smear cake over the translucent security panels instead.

In a final flourish, while being dragged away by security the protester threw a bouquet of roses in the air while chanting “Think of the earth, people are destroying the earth”. The 36-year-old has since been arrested and placed into psychiatric care.

While no environmental charities have claimed responsibility for the attack, the internet has regardlessly had a field day projecting post-modern humour onto yesterday’s events

It’s also worth noting that viral TikTok sensation The Vörös Twins (whose fame is mostly due to this Da Vinki video) were visiting Paris only days before the vandal struck, and are understandably devastated today.
