You Need To Watch Missy Higgins And Birdz Tear Up Destiny’s Child’s ‘Survivor’

We still do not put enough respect on the name Destiny’s Child.

Sure, the band have gone down in the annals of pop history as one of the most beloved R&B acts of the early two thousands. But that level of canonisation means that they’re sometimes treated as a relic of the past, a band to be honoured rather than actively enjoyed.

But screw that noise. Destiny’s Child are just as relevant as ever; their music just as powerful and extreme as it was when first released almost two decades ago. Need proof? Then how about a sterling cover of ‘Survivor’ by Australia’s own Missy Higgins and Birdz.

Yep, Higgins applied her magic touch to the song — the third single from the album of the same name, which enjoys its two-decade anniversary next week — while performing as a guest on The Set. Higgins hewed close to the original while also putting her own distinctive spin on proceedings, while Birdz did his thing and dropped some rapid-fire bars throughout.
