It's called 'Militsioner' and it's already pissed off Russia.

In terms of wacky premises for games, few can beat the hook for new viral Steam smash Militsioner, in which you must escape a giant policeman who lives in the sky.

I mean, I feel like this story could end with that first sentence, and at least a handful of people reading would be like, “I’m all in.” But in case you haven’t been hooked yet, here’s a little more context.

The game, the creation of video game developers Tallboys, is essentially an open-world puzzler, in which you must avoid the influence of the Giant-Policeman, who is “trying to provoke you into actions that expose your guilt.”

“Exposing your guilt” is a pretty vague premise for a game, but the trailer gives more context. Essentially, the Giant-Policeman has the ability to pick you up and drop you wherever he likes, meaning that you must try to escape his authoritarian clutches without attracting his attention. Oh, and obviously, given he lives in the bloody sky, he has a pretty good vantage point.

Since the game was announced, it has gone extremely viral on Twitter, massively increasing interest in the title. At this stage, it’s not clear when the thing will actually be released — there’s no date listed on the Steam page. But from the trailer, the game appears to be in late development stages, so here’s to hoping that most of us don’t have to bide our time for too long.

And anyway, in the meantime, there’s a lot of Militsioner content to keep us going. Like, for instance, the fact that the game appears to have pissed off a “Russian state-owned TV channel” who have accused the game of being un-Russian, given how steeped it is in the imagery of authoritarian Stalinist rule.

Wild times. Stay tuned for more updates about the game as they come in.
