Miley Smoked, Iggy Azalea Flashed, And Other Highlights From The MTV EMAs
We watched the MTV EMAs so you don't have to. No really, you're welcome.
Ever since launching with host Tom Jones back in ’94, the MTV European Music Awards have generally been seen as the MTV VMAs tackier, less important sibling. They’re usually shy of big-name stars, and populated by nobodies from Germany with anime hairstyles.
Despite the fact that it was hosted by new honorary Australian (I guess) Red Foo, today’s event — which was held in international pothead hotbed, Amsterdam — wasn’t much different. I mean, Bruno Mars’ ‘Locked Out Of Heaven’ won the award for ‘Best Song’? Sigh, good one, Europe. Still, a few fun things happened…
–
1. Daft Punk rode in with Ron Burgundy
Yes, Ron Burgundy is still doing everything, everywhere.
–
2. Katy Perry was a disco ball
The singer, who won the award for ‘Best Female’ during the evening’s festivities, performed her new ballad ‘Unconditionally’ while suspended 9 metres above the set. Even a disco ball spins around, though.
–
3. Miley Cyrus is still the world’s greatest role model
Firstly, the 20-year-old superstar aimed to stop ’90s hip-hop violence with her outfit:
Then, she did friendly things to a little person:
And then, she paid tribute to the event’s host city while accepting her Best Video award for ‘Wrecking Ball’:
World, lock up your sons!
–
4. Everybody got a glimpse of Iggy’s Azalea
I have no idea what that means, but the Aussie rapper wasn’t exactly concerned about her apparent “wardrobe malfunction” [NSFW]:
“#FlatButtsCantRelate”. Yep, I think we’re pretty much done here.
