The Trailer For Highly Anticipated Horror ‘Midnight Mass’ Has Arrived, And It’s Creepy As Hell
It comes from the same director as 'The Haunting Of Hill House'.
Mike Flanagan, the director of The Haunting of Hill House and the forthcoming Netflix original horror series Midnight Mass, is one of the most innovative and authentic voices in horror.
Combining a penchant for melodrama with a grating sense of unease, the director has spent the last few years honing his singular talents. The Haunting of Hill House might well be his crowning achievement, expertly fusing together the story of a disaffected and broken family with a great deal of supernatural goings-on.
Basically, Flanagan is Stephen King with the emotional nuance turned way up, a master of digging deep into the lives of his mostly doomed and muddled heroes.
For that reason, Midnight Mass promises to be one of the most thrilling televisual experiences of the year. At the moment, not much is known about the series: the plot synopsis is brief. Following the exploits of a small town ripped apart by the arrival of a mysterious preacher, the show promises to be full of ghosts, supernatural events, and tragic romance.
The cast is mostly made up of unknowns, and, unusually for Flanagan, a fresh set of players — the director is well-known for using the same actors over and over again. Particularly interesting is the casting of Hamish Linklater as the “charismatic” but clearly malevolent preacher. In the trailer, released today, Linklater is the centrepiece of the show, delivering an unnerving monologue and promising that he is somehow known to the Midnight Mass hero, played by a wide-eyed Zach Gilford.

Midnight Mass is coming to Netflix on September 24 of this year. It’s one of two projects from Flanagan that will debut on the streaming giant in 2021 — the other is an adaptation of Christopher Pike’s infamous young adult horror series, The Midnight Club, in production now.
