That Guy Whose Parents Sued Him So He’d Leave Home Called The Cops On His Dad Over Some Lego
This checks out.
Michael Rotondo, the 30-year-old man who became international news after his parents took him to court to force him to move out of home, has finally left the nest… but not before calling the cops on his dad over a fight about some Lego.
According to local media, Rotondo left his parents house in Camillus, New York on Friday, just hours before a court-mandated deadline. He told reporters outside the house that he wanted no further contact with his parents, who last month won a legal battle to evict their son after he refused multiple requests to move out.
During his May 22 court date, Rotondo asked the judge to grant him another six months with his parents. The judge called this request “outrageous”, at which point Rotondo called the judge “outrageous” right back. It was a real battle of wits, to be sure.
Rotondo said on Friday that he called the police after his father refused to let him back into the house to retrieve Lego from the basement that belonged to his eight-year-old son. Instead, his father offered to look for the Lego and bring it out to him.
The Lego was eventually located after the police arrived, which I’m sure was a great relief to all involved.
According to Rotondo, he is currently battling for custody of his son, having lost custody and unsupervised visitation rights in 2017.
Rotondo will apparently spend the next week living in an Airbnb in Syracuse, New York, before moving in with a distant cousin. His move was partially bankrolled by far-right media personality and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who Rotondo says gave him a cheque for US$3000 after he appeared on Jones’ show.
Asked by reporters if his parents said goodbye to him before he left, Rotondo replied “more or less”.
