Watch SNL’s Michael Che Go Undercover As A Liberal White Woman Named Gretchen

As a regular on Saturday Night Live, Michael Che knows all too well that sometimes a joke can rub a person the wrong way. “Sometimes I’ll tell a joke that offends a marginalised group, and I’ll get a lot of mail about it,” said the comedian on this week’s episode. “Mostly from super liberal white women.”

In an effort to improve himself, Che decided to walk a mile in his critics’ shoes, going undercover as a liberal white woman named Gretchen.

“I had to go through a complete and thorough transformation to convince the outside world that me, black-ass Michael Che, was actually a liberal white woman,” he explained. “I’m talking crochet hats, several scarves at a time, I mean you name it, I did it.”

But the bigger challenge, Che said, was learning to talk like a liberal white woman. “I went on Yelp. I read a bunch of Huffington Post articles. I listened to the most ignorant rap music I could find. I read Lena Dunham’s book. You know, white woman stuff!”
