Melbourne’s Resident Falcons Just Hatched Chicks And They’re Adorable
You can watch them on a live webcam now.
If you live in Melbourne, you might be aware of the Collins St falcons — a pair of rare birds of prey nesting on a skyscraper in the CBD. A livestream of their nest has been available online for a few years now, and yesterday it captured something pretty fucking magical — two eggs hatching into teeny, beautiful balls of fluff.
Say hello to Melbourne’s future menacing and majestic birds of prey:

Here’s a pic of them feeding, captured by a Reddit user in the dedicated Melbourne Falcons subreddit (yes, this is a thing that exists).
Falcons nesting on skyscrapers in cities is actually pretty common, though these two are the only falcons known in Melbourne. Cities can be pretty dangerous for birds of prey, because peregrine falcons swoop at speeds of up to 300km/h, which makes collisions with power lines or other objects fatal.
Here’s hoping Melbourne’s newest falcon kids avoid those obstacles and grow up safe and healthy to have beautiful chicks of their own. If you’re anxious to keep an eye on them, you can check out the 24/7 livestream of the gorgeous lil floof balls here.
