Meet The 80-Year-Old Grandma Who’s Nailing The Art Of Instagram
We call her Instagran.
Perfecting the art of a duck pout, casual peace sign and Miley Cyrus tongue can be a tricky thing — and if you’re bad at it, the Internet is always there to point out your failures.
But 80-year-old Grandma Betty has absolutely nailed it.
Betty’s teenage great grandson Zach Belden created the Instagram account for her at the beginning of the year.
Her first post on January 4 showed her sporting her best angry face.
She slowly began building a base of followers, to whom she drops the odd pop culture reference while also documenting – with Zach’s help – her battle with cancer, spreading a positive message in the process.
Three weeks ago, for instance, @grandmabetty33 posted this excellent video, of her dancing to Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ in celebration of reaching 2,500 followers:
This led to a follow from the man himself:
On Friday, Grandma Betty appeared on ABC News and said of her great-grandson, “He loves me so much, that’s why he did it. He doesn’t want to lose me and he’s just good to me.”
Her followers quickly spiked as a result. Which was cause for even more celebration:
Earlier today, Pharrell regrammed Grandma Betty: “Happiness is a human right,” he said. Which isn’t true, but is a nice idea all the same. “Let’s keep @grandmabetty33 smiling.”
In her latest display of Insta expertise, she told @MileyCyrus that the serial poser ain’t got nothing on Grandma Betty:
While the posts and videos – now being followed by over 150,000 — show Grandma Betty having a bit of fun, they also shown the harsh reality of cancer, which, as the Huffington Post says, “is all too often hidden from the public view.”
Zach used this post to thank their many followers, as messages of support flow in for his great-grandma.
A social media expert AND a positive outlook in the face of a huge battle? What a lady!
