Matthew McConaughey Gave A Very Confusing Pep Talk To An American College Football Team
"Work ethic will eliminate fear."
Fresh off the back of his latest box office smash that made less than $3000 in its opening weekend, Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey stopped by his old alma mater, the University of Texas at Austin, to deliver a motivational address to the college football team, the Longhorns. Or at least, we think that’s what he was trying to do.
Naturally, the native Texan is no stranger to the inspirational team speeches, having delivered a ripper in We Are Marshall back before anyone took him seriously as an actor. Sadly, his latest effort feels a little bit off the mark.

Full credit to the True Detective star for giving this thing his all. You can’t deny that he’s one hell of a performer, even if you’re not convinced that the words “work ethic will eliminate fear” actually make any kind of sense.
Still, for the record, the underdog Longhorns won their game 50-47, so what the hell do I know?

Matthew McConaughey gave a pep talk to Texas football?
"That's what I like about you college players. I get older, you stay the same age."
