Avengers: Endgame, the conclusion to the decade-long Marvel cinematic experiment, will undoubtedly involve something new for the franchise: actual, no-backsies deaths.

Up to this point, Marvel has always been rather squeamish at the prospect of getting rid of its stars. Even Agent Coulson, murdered by Loki in Avengers, was resurrected for the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D TV series, and the franchise’s stakes have never actually been tested.

That’s all set to change when it comes to Endgame though, in no small part because a bunch of contracts are due to expire. That means the actors’ onscreen characters are going to do the same, undoubtedly vanquished by the very purple Thanos.

As a result of the impending cataclysm, Marvel fans are starting to get a little bit melancholy. The actors that they have idolised for over a decade are about to step away from the cameras and at least some of them — Robert Downey Jr. in particular — are now so rich that they never have to work a day in their life again.

Who can blame them for worrying that the potential death of Iron Man might also mean the death — or at least, temporary retiring of — Downey Jr.’s excellent knack for being a mischief maker in interviews?

To that end, one particularly avid and excellent Marvel fan with the Twitter handle @coIonelrhodes has compiled together a thread of the actors’ greatest moments, and boy is it a wild ride.

Remember when Mark Ruffalo leaked Thor Ragnarok?

Or who could forget Mads Mikkelsen’s tender relationship with an alien?

There’s just a lot going on, like that time Chris Evans, AKA Captain America, derailed an interview by speaking in a baby voice, moving on to the heartening relationship between Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr., and including that iconic photo of Jeff Goldblum and a particularly committed fan, it’s a bumper trip through everything that makes the MCU’s key cast such heroes.

Honestly, Chris Evans is a loose unit.

“It took me about two days to compile everything,” @colonelrhodes explained of the thread. “There was a lot of research involved because I wanted to include some classic moments as well as things most fans weren’t aware of, like Tom Hiddleston and Gwendoline Christie’s friendship.”

As to who he thinks will be axed in Endgame, @colonelrhodes has some opinions. “Definitely I think Steve and Tony will die, but I’m unsure about the others,” he says. “I’m also theorising there might be a last minute plot twist that has something to do with the alternate timelines Doctor Strange mentioned.”

So there you have it. Time to get mourning, Iron Man fans!
