The Best Signs From Today’s Massive Marriage Equality Rallies
There were a lot to choose from.

For the third week in a row, Australians have turned out in enormous numbers to march in support of marriage equality.
Following on from the massive rallies in Melbourne and Canberra over the past two weeks, thousands upon thousands of people took to the streets of Sydney and Brisbane on Sunday. Armed with placards and rainbow flags, they urged the federal government to get on with the business of affording LGBTIQ+ Australians the same basic rights as everybody else.
Organisers believe the event in Sydney drew upwards of 30,000 people, making it the largest marriage equality rally in the nation’s history.
The march in Brisbane attracted several thousand more, with the crowd reportedly breaking out into an impromptu rendition of ‘I Will Survive’ in response to the presence of a small number of religious counter-protesters.
Around 1,000 people also marched on Tasmanian parliament in Hobart on Saturday.

The outpouring of public support comes in the lead-up to the government’s controversial postal survey on marriage equality, the ballots for which are due to be mailed out in the coming weeks.
Addressing the crowd in Sydney, opposition leader Bill Shorten said he expected to see the Yes vote win “because Australia has said it’s time to make marriage equality a reality”.

And there were plenty more where those came from. Social media has been absolutely flooded with signs from the rallies, featuring everything from Daleks to muppets to Tony Abbott in all his bare-chested glory (ew).
