Let’s backtrack a couple of days: earlier this week, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern suffered through a bizarre, uncomfortable interview by Australian journalist Charles Wooley on 60 Minutes.

Wooley’s questions were labelled “creepy” by viewers. Choice moments included:

  • “In terms of being pregnant, how much of a help in those approval ratings do you think the baby, how much does he help out?”
  • “I’ve met a lot of prime ministers in my time, but none so young, not too many so smart, and never one so attractive.”
  • And after asking when the baby was due, following up with the line “it’s interesting how much people have been counting back, to the conception as it were”

But SBS comedian Mark Humphries doesn’t want to hear it. Last night, he aired a hilarious skit taking the piss the interview:

“It’s hard because sometimes I’m tempted to ask powerful women questions on their careers on their thoughts on important social issues,” Humphries said, playing the character of a real journo. “But I’ve just got to remember to stay focussed, and ask them questions about their workout routine.”

He went on to call out Wooley specifically:

“While lesser journalists would skip over the bangability of a leader, Wooley puts that front and centre and that’s why a look up to him.”

Humphries also took the time to conduct his own spoof interview with Prime Minister Ardern.

“Now, of course it would be inappropriate of me to ask what position the child was conceived in, but I’ve lost my clipboard and that’s all I can think of.”

Humphries pumps out a heaps of these short videos — recently, he’s taken on Barnaby Joyce losing his deputy prime ministership, the history of goon, and Nick Xenophon’s strange new campaign ad.
