Malcolm Young, the co-founder and guitarist for legendary rock band AC/DC, sadly passed away on Saturday at the age of 64. According to a statement, he died peacefully surrounding by his family, after suffering from dementia for three years.

Young helped found AC/DC with his brother, Angus Young, back in 1973 in Sydney. The band released 16 studio albums including the Grammy award-winning War Machine, and the critically lauded Back in Black.

The band released two statements via their Facebook page,  including a heartfelt note from Angus.

“As his brother it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special,” said Angus Young. “He leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever. Malcolm, job well done.”
