It's funny 'cause it's true.
Remember the old days, when the hash symbol was just a humble grammatical device used by people too lazy to spell out the word “number”? Well, obviously, thanks to Twitter and those influential wordsmiths Mariah Carey and Will.i.am (I guess), it’s since become more ubiquitous than parentheses and exclamation points (parentheses and exclamation points!), and transcended computer screens into the everyday speech of a generation (#negronis!”, “#thisismyjam”, “#poopedmypants!” – you know all those things people yell when they’re kinda tipsy and having fun).
But last night, on his late night show, host Jimmy Fallon and guest Justin Timberlake turned the mirror back on ourselves. It’s a #hashtag nightmare.
“#shutthefuckup”, indeed. That Ray Romano impression is #amazing, though.
