Check Out The Lonely Island Song Rejected By The Oscars
They were asked to write a song, then it was rejected.
The Academy Awards are done and dusted for another year, which means you can finally stop pretending to care about movies you never got around to seeing. In case you missed it, here’s a quick recap: the fish fucking movie beat the problematic billboard movie, and Jimmy Kimmel was… fine. You can read the full list of winners over here.
Of course, not everyone walks away a winner on Hollywood’s night of nights. Hell, many of the biggest movies of the year weren’t even nominated. But don’t worry, The Lonely Island have just released a song in their honour, and it’s honestly better than about 90 percent of the stuff that won.
Apparently the group was asked to write a musical number for the Oscars, only for their submission to be rejected due to it being “financially and logistically impossible” to produce. For what it’s worth, I have absolutely no idea if that’s actually true. What I do know is that the ceremony would have been infinitely more entertaining had it featured Gal Gadot, Vin Diesel and all the Chrises — Hemsworth, Evans, Pratt and Pine — performing an elaborate song and dance routine.
Instead, we’ll have to make do with this first draft version shared on the group’s YouTube channel. Enjoy!
