We all know that Aussie comedians are untouchable on the international stage. No offence to the rest of the world, but there are certain gags only we’re brilliant (or is that brilliantly unhinged?) enough to come up with.

That’s never been more obvious than in LOL: Last One Laughing Australia, a new show on Amazon Prime Video that makes a bunch of Aussie comedians, including Frank Woodley, Sam Simmons, Susie Youssef, Joel Creasey, Dilruk Jayasinha, Ed Kavalee, Anne Edmonds, Nazeem Hussain, Becky Lucas and Nick Cody, compete to make each other laugh.

The idea is simple: over six episodes, 10 comedians will pull out their best and wildest material to try to make each other crack up while keeping a straight face. Rebel Wilson is the host, judge, jury, and executioner, and is ready to eliminate anyone she sees laugh until only a single comedian remains.

And with $100,000 on the line, these guys will stop at nothing. And we mean nothing. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen Sam Simmons rock a dick jacket. But I’m getting ahead of myself…

Get ready to laugh, because we’ve rounded up five hilarious gags from LOL: Last One Laughing Australia that only our fave Aussie comedians could get away with.

#1 Playing tongue gymnastics with your mate

Oh, to be a bulldog clip getting passed between Frank Woodley and Ed Kavalee’s tongues.

When Woodley got in people’s faces, saying, “bonjour!” with a clip stuck to the tip of his tongue (which almost broke us on its own, to be honest), Kavalee flexed his improv skills and committed to the bit.

“Can he transfer that from his tongue to my tongue without using his hands?” he asked. A crowd gathered, silence fell, and they stretched their tongues toward each other.

What’s impressive is that they really did manage to transfer the clip using only their mouths. What’s hilarious is how long they took to do it.

#2 Straight-up screaming “pussay!”

The fact is, when you’re asked what your favourite body part is, absolutely everyone thinks the same thing: pussy. It doesn’t matter if you actually prefer strong arms or pretty eyes – because of science, or something, we all think pussy.

“What’s everyone’s favourite body part?” Lucas asked the room, as innocent as a cartoon princess who has woodland creatures do her bidding.

The only problem was that Anne Edmonds, who was inexplicably lying on the floor wearing a party hat, immediately rolled over and shouted, “pussay!” with the intensity of a thousand suns.

#3 Repeating everything people say

Becky Lucas is, famously, an adult — far too old to be obnoxiously repeating everything people say like a bored five-year-old.

Which is why it’s so funny to watch her do it. That’s comedy, baby. I don’t make the rules.

It wouldn’t have broken everyone (everyone watching along at home, I mean) quite so much if Sam Simmons didn’t play along and make her say some downright filthy things.

When even that didn’t make the other comedians laugh he resorted to sound effects, and that’s how we know that Becky Lucas does a mean impersonation of an inflatable pool being blown up.

#4 Throwing up on command

Dilruk Jayasinha got us good with a two-for-one, setting up his punchline by sculling a drink without closing his mouth. If you’ve never seen someone down a drink without closing their mouth, let me tell you it’s *chef’s kissy fingers* physical comedy.

“Think I’m just gonna go full vom,” he announced afterwards, looking legitimately unwell and grabbing a glass vase.

One of the best things about LOL: Last One Laughing Australia is watching everyone pile on to each other’s jokes. They’re all amazing stand-up comedians, and they’re using every trick they’ve got to make each other lose it.

That’s the kind of magic that led to the entire room either begging Jayasinha to stop or egging him on as he tried to make himself spew on TV.

#5 Wearing a jacket covered in dicks

Name one other comedian who could rock a jacket covered in floppy rubber dicks. John Mulaney? Try again, sweetie. Ali Wong? Maybe she could, but has she? No.

Only our very own Sam Simmons would 1) make a jacket covered in floppy rubber dicks and 2) wear it on a massive reality TV competition that’s going to be streamed to millions of people around the world.

Watching Simmons dance while pulling on the dicks on his jacket is the soul, the very essence, of comedy. Now we know for sure what we’ve always suspected: Australians are the funniest people on the planet and the rest of the world needs to up its comedy game.
