Logan Paul and KSI’s Energy Drink Simply Has Too Much Caffeine
If Red Bull gives you wings, Prime Energy will take you a bit too close to the sun.
I regret to inform you that Logan Paul is still at large in Australia: this time, spruiking an energy drink known as Prime Hydration.
Logan Paul and KSI, who we’ll call internet celebrities for lack of a better description, recently visited Sydney to promote their new sports drink, Prime Hydration. The aptly named drink doesn’t have any caffeine and is meant for ‘hydration’, like a knock-off Powerade or yassified fruit water.
But Prime Energy, the other drink these two have spruiked in the past, which that is only available in Aus via resale websites, is a different story. Each can is 355mL and contains a whopping 200mg of caffeine, which is equal to 56mg per 100mL. Compare that to Coke, which contains 9mg per 100mL, and Red Bull, which boasts 32mg per 100mL — the legal limit for energy drinks in Australia. So legally, it can’t be sold here as an energy drink; but is reportedly being categorised as a “dietary supplement ” instead.
Interestingly, the health effects of energy drinks are starting to be questioned more broadly. A recent study in 2021 surveyed almost 9000 students across Australia and found that energy drink consumption was linked to other behaviours like drinking more sugary drinks and getting less sleep. A town in WA is even running a four-month trial banning minors from buying energy drinks completely.
Could there be an energy drink reckoning be in our future? We simply couldn’t say. But what we do know is that Prime Energy could well have you buzzing a bit too close to the sun.
