Local ABC Comedy Series ‘#7DaysLater’ Just Won An Emmy
Wow, nice job, #7DaysLater.
Like Bryan Cranston! Well, kinda. The series — produced by Brisbane and Sydney-based Ludo Studio, and which aired on ABC2 late last year — picked up an International Emmy Award in the ‘Fiction’ category, during a ceremony in Cannes overnight.
Described as “the world’s first crowd-sourced TV show”, the series brought together Australia’s most popular YouTube personalities — including ‘Bondi Hipster’ Christian Van Vuuren and those dudes who created those Beached Az viral videos — to collaborate with their social media followers in brainstorming, shooting, editing and airing an episode online and on TV in seven days. The eight-episode series also featured cameos from Corey Feldman (The Goonies, Dream A Little Dream), Colin Mochrie (Whose Line Is It Anyway?), John Jarrett (Wolf Creek), and Jemaine Clement (Flight Of The Conchords), among others.
“We love #7DaysLater, and we’re so happy our audience love it too. It’s crazy that we’ve won an international Emmy, but it’s a testament to the massive talent and dedication of our Australian team and the #7DaysLater community,” said series creator Daley Pearson in a press release, who’s currently working on Season Two of the show.
The win marks the second Emmy nod for an Australian series in consecutive years — last year, kids’ eco cartoon DirtGirlWorld won an International Emmy in the ‘Children and Young People’ category at the same awards show. Well done, Australian television, soon we’ll have all the Emmys.
