Legendary ‘Alien’ And ‘Harry Potter’ Actor John Hurt Has Passed Away Aged 77
RIP.
Esteemed British actor John Hurt has passed away at the age of 77.
A six decade veteran of the silver screen, Hurt will be remembered for his iconic roles as doomed crew-member Kane in Alien, wand maker Ollivander in the Harry Potter series, and deformed Londoner John Merrick in The Elephant Man. The latter performance earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Midnight Express.
Hurt was most recently seen in Jackie, and in the Doctor Who special The Day of the Doctor.
In June 2015, the actor announced that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but subsequently revealed that the disease was in remission. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth that same year for services to drama.
It was terribly sad today to learn of John Hurt's passing. He was a truly magnificent talent.
