Civilisation Is Still Extremely Wrecked In The New Trailer For ‘The Last Of Us Part II’
Things look bad for Joel and Ellie.
Say what you want about Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us: that game sure knows how to get the waterworks going.
The critically beloved title follows two lost souls, Joel and Ellie, as they attempt to navigate a post-apocalyptic landscape ravaged by fungal monsters known as The Infected. Needless to say then, it’s full of all of the shooting, running, and stealthing that you’d expect from a title set after the end of the world.
But what it’s also full of is heart. Joel and Ellie’s troubles are dealt with maturely, and with an intelligence sometimes rare to modern triple A games. You keep playing not only to see how the plot unfurls, but to see how the characters change; to see how Joel and Ellie will react to the terrible things forced upon them by their ravaged hellscape. And to see, ultimately, if they will hold onto their ethics.
Well, get excited, because it looks like the long-awaited The Last of Us Part II is set to follow in an extremely similar vein.

Not that the new trailer gives away much in terms of plot. Prior news announces have suggested that the game will follow Ellie as she comes up against a “mysterious cult”, and the trailer does seem to follow some kind of revenge narrative.
Of course, discerning players might also guess that (spoilers for The Last of Us) Joel’s deception at the end of the first game might rear its ugly head again, throwing his relationship with the young woman he calls “baby girl” into significant trouble.
Guess we’ll find out when the game is released on February 21, 2020. Of course, that’s a fair chunk of time away, but that also means that you’ll have enough time to replay the original in its entirety. Which you definitely should.
