Lana Del Rey is one of the most respected and adored songwriters of the 21st century. Her world building is rich, expansive, and takes us on a journey through the America Lana wants to show us. But sometimes Lana Del Rey can be a rogue unit.

For every beautiful lyric she’s written she’s said something that baffles even the most scientific of minds. Something that will forever be imprinted in my brain is her saying “I won’t not fuck you the fuck up” or “tell him it’s a promise not a threat” during her infamous fight with Azealia Banks

Fans know that Lana will do whatever the hell she wants and we will eat it up. Like making her cover art on Picsart, coming up with the most absurd song titles, working at a Waffle House in Alabama, or wearing a sparkly mesh mask during the COVID pandemic. Us fans call these moments “Lana Del Rey doing Lana Del Rey things”.

Lana’s recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar has occupied every corner of my mind for the past day. I’ve poured over every interview she’s done since 2013 but she seems genuinely happy and carefree in this profile and video that it’s brought me unprecedented levels of joy. She’s such a funny person and she’s finally comfortable showing that side of her in interviews.

I thought I’d share with you all the most Lana Del Rey things Lana Del Rey said in her Harper’s Bazaar interview.

Lana Del Rey Lying About Random Things:

Many of us have crowned Lana as the queen of lying. For years she’s told us a single would release soon only for it to take an entire year after she teased it. Or that she’s made music videos for several songs that still haven’t seen the light of day. I’m okay with the random little lies, it keeps us guessing.

“Lana Del Rey points a red vape at a set of lounge chairs in her backyard.”

“‘When I bought those… I was stoked.’ I’m [the writer] skeptical. The chairs look untouched, unused.”

“‘We had a firepit,’ Del Rey says, gesturing first to a place in the yard that doesn’t seem to have ever had a firepit”.

Love, Men, and Relationships:

Lana is no stranger to failed, turbulent relationships. Almost all of her music stems from her experiences of love and lust. She’s taught me everything I know about men, which might explain a lot actually.

“I’m definitely not in love right now… but give it a week. My history, sure, it’s coming for me.”

“Men. My thoughts are all shaped like men.”

“I feel like even the most chill guy doesn’t really want to chill here”, “That was actually the end of a relationship.”

“I think I would have to get my orientation toward where I want to be geographically stronger in my solar plexus, like a knowingness there, before I could turn into a stronger desire romantically.”

“If you don’t feel a connection necessarily to the pavement you’re walking on, the love thing stays over there”.

Lana Del Rey On How She Sees Herself:

These will all make sense if you’ve ever followed Lana Del Rey on social media, especially Twitter. We know that girl can fight.

“If I had to peer right inside my heart, it’s really big. And it’s really hot and warm. But it can be icy though”.

“I’m not afraid of a fight. I’ll go from zero to 100 real fast”.

“It’s inconvenient to be in touch with yourself”.

Random Musings That Made Me Giggle:

I just couldn’t categorise these quotes even if I tried. They’re good enough to stand on their own.

“We’re famous down in Arkansas”.

“It’s almost like they were wrong”, “That’s all. They just got it all wrong. That’s all.”

“I couldn’t even whip something up journaling.”

Quotes From The Video Interview That Can’t Be Contained

“That’s fire”

“We preserved the shopping bag where it’s me, Lindsay Lohan, and my sister”

“I played it cool. Even at thirteen”

“What the fuck are those pictures?”

“I can mimic almost anyone”

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”

“That was a little bit of a God moment. A little bit of a God shot”

“I lived my life as a Gemini. It’s insane. Then I found out I was four hours short and I threw out all of my fourteen karat gold twin Gemini pendants and got lots of crabs in diamonds”

“I’ve got a go bag, I’ve got a truck, and I carry everything I have with me on my back just like a crab. Total crybaby, tears all the time, water all the way. I have a lot of fire in me though … I think that’s where Leo comes in”

“What a nuisance to society”

“I have no teases, no confirmations about collaborating with Billie [Eilish] but I feel like our careers feel like a collaboration”

“I was [a real housewives fan] and now I don’t really know any of the girls on the Beverly Hills show. How about Kyle Richards though huh?”

Lana Del Rey please never change.
