Lady Gaga’s New Single ‘Stupid Love’ Has Leaked, And Fans Are Losing Their Minds
We're far from the (sound of) 'Shallow' now.
After months of teasing — and tweets about naming her next album ‘Adele’ — the new era of Lady Gaga is upon us. The lead single of her sixth album was rumoured to come in February, and now, a song called ‘Stupid Love’ has leaked online — and it’s a return to the maximalist synth-pop of Born This Way.
‘Stupid Love’ appeared online overnight after sleuths found code in Gaga’s website that referenced the song: a similar thing happened with ‘Perfect Illusion’, the lead single off her 2016 album Joanne. The song is a sharp turn from both the country-tinged pop of Joanne and the A Star Is Born soundtrack, filled with classic Gaga vocal ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ and high-octane ’80s synth lines.
Gaga hasn’t commented on the leak directly yet, though her Netflix documentary Five Foot Two captured her devastated reaction to the Joanne leaks: while some fans have jumped on the chance to hear new music, others are waiting for the release, as to respect her.
While Gaga hasn’t released an album since 2016 (A Star Is Born soundtrack excluded), she’s been very, very busy, with a residency in Vegas, A Star Is Born (and the performative promotion), co-chairing last year’s Met Gala and launching Haus Laboratories, a make-up line with Amazon.
She’s also been working on her album, though even with the leak, we don’t know too much about LG6 yet. All we do know is that Gaga’s worked with producers SOPHIE and Bloodpop, suggesting a turn to high-energy, weird pop. We’re far from the (sound of) ‘Shallow’ now.
Reactions to ‘Stupid Love’ are pretty positive, with fans online making memes about Gaga’s return to the pop that made her famous. Find some of our favourite reactions below.
