Invite Your Ex-Best Friend’s New Girlfriend To Tea, ‘The L Word’ Reboot Has Been Confirmed
Maybe we'll finally learn what the 'L' stands for?
Good news, lesbians and fans of lesbian-centric drama: 2000s drama The L Word will be returning later this year with a reboot featuring some of the original cast, alongside new soon-to-be favourites.
There have been talks of a sequel since 2017 (and Roxane Gay put her hand up to write it), but today Showtime confirmed that the reboot is happening.
Confirmed to return are Jennifer Beals (Better), Katherine Moennig (Shane) and Leisha Hailey (Alice), who will play nice and not-so-nice “alongside a new generation of self-possessed LGBTQIA characters experiencing love, heartbreak, sex, setbacks and success in L.A.” (via Vulture).
On Twitter, Lena Waithe’s put her name into the ring for the show. Make it happen!

The trio of actresses will executive produce the show, alongside show creator Ilene Chaiken and new showrunner Marja-Lewis Ryan, who wrote and directed the Dave Franco-starring Netflix film 6 Balloons.
The original The L World was a breakthrough for LGBTIQ representation on TV screens, and has a soft place in many queer women’s hearts. If you haven’t seen it, all six seasons are streaming on Stan.
The revival’s first season has been locked in for eight episodes, and we should be seeing it sometime this year. It’s believed other classic characters may return, including Carmen, Kit, Tina, Dana and Jenny, who, famously, is dead. Maybe not? We did never find out who killed her.
And who knows? We might even find out what the ‘L’ stands for. My guess is ‘Long Island Ice Tea’, but I could be wrong.
