Spiderbait’s Kram Dedicates Song To Guy Sebastian Over Vax Campaign Backflip
"Guy, don’t worry, you’ll make up your mind eventually, mate."
It’s been a matter of days since Guy Sebastian decided to walk back his involvement in the #VaxTheNation campaign.
Sebastian had initially signed up to the campaign, which saw Australian music stars film short videos in which they encouraged Australians to get vaccinated so that the at-risk music industry could begin its long process of recovery. But within less than a day, the singer issued a retraction, apologising for his involvement.
Facing immense backlash for his flip-flopping, Sebastian tried to clarify his position in a radio interview and on Twitter, where he said that he felt his video had put undue pressure on everyone to get vaccinated, even those who might have pre-existing health conditions that would make said vaccination hard.
But not many accepted such an explanation. Many interpreted Sebastian’s actions as an attempt to get anti-vaxxers onside, and noted that the clarification of his position happened subtly, quietly, rather than on his Instagram, where the “apology” was posted.
Now, Sebastian has come under fire once again, albeit in a sly way, thanks to Kram, the drummer for Spiderbait. Appearing on the radio show ‘Who’s Calling Christian’, hosted by Christian O’Connell, Kram dedicated the Neighbours theme to the criticised popstar.
“That’s the religious hymn version of the Neighbours theme,” Kram said, as noted by The Music Network. “I want to dedicate that to Guy Sebastian, who’s probably feeling the pinch a bit right now. Guy, don’t worry, you’ll make up your mind eventually, mate.
“I’m also calling on behalf of vaccinations, so I want to dedicate that song to all the other 401 artists and performers like myself who are banding together just to encourage people to get vaccinated. Let’s get back to normal so we can play rock and roll and we can go to shows again.”
Incredible.
