Want A Writing Credit on Koala’s ‘Give Me A Home Among The Gumtrees’ Remix?

‘Give Me A Home Among The Gumtrees’ is one of those classic Australian tunes everyone knows. It’s hard to graduate primary school in this country without singing it in at least one Christmas concert.
The original version of the song came out way back in 1974 – which, Koala reckons, makes it about due for an update.
To reimagine this iconic piece of Australiana, the mattress purveyor is rewriting the lyrics to ‘Give Me A Home Among The Gumtrees’ with the assistance of one very special (and still very secret) musician. But they also need your help.
Koala are asking witty Australians – that’s you – to submit their own lyrics for consideration. All you have to do is head to changeourtune.com and enter the lyrics you want to see in the song. If you’re lucky (and sharp enough with the rhymes), your lyrics may be included in the final rewrite. And, for your troubles, you’ll also go in the running to win a Queen Dream Bundle from Koala. Nice.
It’ll be hard to top lines like “Give me a home among the gumtrees / With lots of plum trees / A sheep or two, a kangaroo”, but hey, we can try.
