INXS Guitarist Kirk Pengilly Has The World’s Worst Take On Sexual Harassment
"I really loved the 60s and 70s."
As the entertainment industry continues to grapple with a seemingly endless stream of sexual harassment scandals, INXS guitarist Kirk Pengilly has sent out the call: won’t somebody please think of the men?
Speaking to the Australian Associated Press at a charity event in Melbourne on Thursday evening, the 59-year-old musician spoke wistfully of a time when slapping a woman on the bum was seen as no big deal.
“I really loved the 60s and 70s when life was so simple and you could slap a woman on the butt and it was taken as a compliment, not as sexual harassment” said Pengilly, when asked about the growing numbers of men in the entertainment business — including Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and Australian celebrity gardener Don Burke — who have been accused of acting inappropriately towards women.
Pengilly’s remarks sparked a backlash on social media, where many fans expressed their disgust.
If you think slapping a woman on the butt is paying her a compliment, go back to the prehistoric era you came from.https://t.co/TxNVlew4NG

Kirk Pengilly’s ability to read a room hasn’t been real good since ’97 when INXS became a national embarrassment.
