Kingdom Hearts is one of the most overstuffed, antic game franchises around, a souped-up experience that mooshes properties together into a tonally bizarre stew.

That’s not meant as a criticism. Indeed, in a video game landscape where most games strive for realism, Kingdom Hearts is the rare proposition that takes joy in leaving the actual world behind. So many triple A games look the same; so many triple A games are dour and serious. Kingdom Hearts is the antidote to a culture that demands only one thing from games, and instead pushes the audience in directions that they never would have been able to expect.

There are now ten games in the series, each wilder than the last. These days, the lore of the franchise has become a tower buckling under its own weight — there is so much story, so many characters, that getting into the game series can feel like a unique challenge all of its own.

But never fear. Even if you’ve never played one of the games in your life, you can still enjoy the camp pleasures of the series, thanks to a viral Tweet thread that pulls apart its wildest moments from context, and delivers a shred of absolute batshit beauty, quivering for you to take.

We have Twitter user @DustyCarpet to thank for the thread. They were the one who kicked the whole deluge off, tweeting simply, “Kingdom Hearts cutscenes out of context are top tier humor, I swear.”

Within hours of the tweet going up, fans of the series began to share their favourite moments, from a vengeful Mickey Mouse to a showdown with Jack Sparrow, to a well-cut scream.

Truly we should celebrate this wild content, at the very least for the hours of laughs that it has provided us with.
