Keep Sydney Open Is Throwing A Huge Multi-Venue Party In Kings Cross
In celebration of Sydney’s nightlife, activist groups Keep Sydney Open and Eastside Sydney have just announced a full-precinct party! ‘Meet Me In The Cross‘ will take place across seven Kings Cross venues on Saturday, July 1 as a defiant stand against lockouts and continuing crackdowns on clubs and venues.
“Kings Cross is the heart and soul of Sydney nightlife,” said Keep Sydney Open Campaign Director Tyson Koh. “We all know it has suffered in recent times, but the truth is venues are still kicking in the Cross — you can still see great local live bands and dance to amazing music.”
For $30, punters will be able to check out a full spectrum of live music and dance across beloved venues Kings Cross Hotel, The World Bar, Candy’s Apartment, Potts Point Hotel (formerly Kit & Kaboodle), Crane Bar, Jangling Jack’s and Sweethearts Rooftop. The full line-up is yet be to announced, but it will include acts from Sydney labels Astral People, Future Classic, Elefant Traks and Lovebombs to Heaps Gay, Zoo Project, We Love and T1000.
The party follows a particularly rocky few weeks for Sydney’s nightlife, from beloved Regent Street bar Freda scoring a new late night license in mid-May to an “intimidating” and controversial raid on William Street venue 77 last Saturday.
While Sydney’s nightlife has endured those deeply unpopular lockout laws and that terrifying-sounding raid, the “night economy ambassadors” at Keep Sydney Open are also finding new ways to improve the space, such as campaigning for new permit laws to open up warehouses and disused spaces for events. Now’s a good time to get out there and show your support — and what’s a better way to do that then partying until the wee hours of the morning?
Tickets are on sale now.
