Keanu Reeves is, without a doubt, one of the most wholesome performers currently working in Hollywood.

The man just has an eternal grace about him, a kind of effortless kindness. Whether in interviews, or onscreen, he always exudes a charm that wins you over precisely because it’s so all-consuming; so encompassing. Keanu Reeves knows exactly who you are, and he loves you for that.

As it turns out, that goodness doesn’t just manifest itself in small ways, either. Reeves is also a fan of making practical, actionable difference to the world. Rather than hoarding his wealth, as so many stars do, Reeves is committed to giving money to the people who really need it.

Want proof? Then just take this heartwarming story about Reeves donating his royalties from The Matrix to cancer research.

As reported by Pedestrian and news.Com.Au, Reeves donated a staggering 70 percent of his money to the cause, even establishing his very own foundation to help children afflicted with the life-threatening illness. For Reeves, such a donation was personal — the actor’s sister, Kim Reeves, survived leukemia. He even helped her through the illness as well, staying by her side while she recuperated.

Reeves isn’t the only person associated with the Matrix franchise who has redistributed their wealth, either. There’s a story floating around at the moment that Lana and Lilly Wachowski, the directors of the original trilogy, invited their collaborators to a swanky dinner after filming wrapped, and gifted them all with a cheque.

Just goes to show — Hollywood isn’t necessarily full of self-interested elites. You can bypass the way that fame turns you inward quite easily. All you need to do is remember that you are lucky, and that lots of other people out there aren’t.
