He Did It
Ke Huy Quan won the Oscar.
On some level, I knew it was going to happen. But once again I am shaken to my core… It actually happened. He did it. Ke Huy Quan won the Oscar.
Every time Ke Huy Quan won an award for his heartwarming portrayal of Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All At Once, I was a blubbering mess. This time was no different, save for the fact that the tears began as soon as Ariana DeBose and Troy Kotsur started introducing the category for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. The anticipation was almost unbearable, and his Oscar winning moment was free therapy.
The lead up to Quan winning the Oscar is a journey that started long before EEAAO made its mark last year. The actor has been open about his inability to find work after his breakout roles in the 1908s — Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple Doom and Data in The Goonies. It was a dry spell that lasted years — decades — and, as he mentioned in his Golden Globe acceptance speech, he was afraid he had nothing more to offer. Even after wrapping EEAAO, he still couldn’t book a gig. Fast forward to Oscars night and EEAAO, currently nominated for 10 Academy Awards, is on track win big.

Quan certainly shouldn’t have a problem getting work now. The multiverse finally caught on to his talent and will hopefully deliver what he truly deserves: everything, everywhere, all at once.
