Katy Perry popped by The Project this Tuesday night to talk about, well, pretty much everything, and perform her latest single, ‘Never Worn White’. After last week’s cringe-inducing chat with Nicole Scherzinger, the panel got their act together: it’s a joy to watch, even if you’re not a Katy Kat like Pete Helliar clearly is.

Perry is currently in Australia off the back of a performance at the MCG on International Women’s Day, helping the #FillTheMCG movement for the T20 women’s cricket final — it worked, with a record-breaking 86,000+ people attending.

“I think it set the bar super high and it shows that women are strong and powerful and as interesting to watch in sport as anyone else,” she said.

Perry said she was eager to do the event even with the context of Coronavirus, where most large-scale events are being cancelled or postponed across the world — including a bushfire fundraiser scheduled in Melbourne with Miley Cyrus and Lil Nas X.

“I think we all have to take it one step at a time, and use both our right and left brains,” she said. “The thing about coming to Australia, we actually got fined $150 for bringing in some Manuka Honey, so I thought, ‘if that’s the bar they’re setting for safety, then I’m feeling good about this trip’.”

While she’s here, Perry will also do a free concert in regional Victorian town Bright, performing as a thank you to local firefighter volunteers, their families and those who were affected by the fires.

She also chatted about her impending new album, pregnancy, long-distance love, and the recent passing of her Grandmother, which happened while she was in Australia. That last part was particularly poignant, with Perry reflecting on the strange idea of a life leaving her life while another enters.

Her attempt at an Australian accent is also quite good. Watch it all below.
