Forget 10 days: Kate Hudson just can’t lose Matthew McConaughey, even 20 years down the line.

The rom-com golden couple reunited on Instagram Live this week and made me believe in love again, if only for 30 minutes.

Kate starts the live by explaining that she and Matthew wanted to hop on a call and “celebrate what is the 2oth anniversary of How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days which I can’t even fucking believe it, it’s so crazy.” You read my mind, Kate.

When she finally gets a very tanned Matthew on the call with the help of her assistant (bit of an IRL Glass Onion moment), she points out he “looks like he’s in the most lush, yummy environment.” He responds that he’s close to where they filmed another one of their famed rom-coms Fool’s Gold in — wait for it — Port Douglas. Sound the alarms! Matthew McConaughey is in Australia!

After catching up as old friends do, the pair finally got into discussing the reason we were gathered here today. “There’s been this whole viral TikTok ‘How To Lose A Guy’ moment,’ Kate begins. “And it’s basically introduced our movie to an entirely new generation.” She asked Matthew if he’s seen it, to which he responds, “I have not!”. I respect it.

The parts of the movie going the most viral? How could it be anything but Andie (Kate Hudson) and Ben’s (Matthew McConaughey) aggressive rendition of ‘You’re So Vain’ by Carly Simon. I still can’t listen to that song without launching into their spoken-word poetry rendition of the second verse. Powerful.

Kate also recalled an anecdote about going into Sephora with her daughter and running into a group of young girls, who she expected might recognise her as Birdie from The Glass Onion. Instead, they flocked to her with How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days on their minds. Glad to see that the kids are still appreciating the classics.

The rest of the conversation is like a warm cosy walk down memory lane. The pair talk about their favourite scenes and how lucky they feel to have been in such a culturally valuable rom-com. In fact, which streaming platform is it available on now? It’s high time for a re-watch before any of those pesky password-sharing rules kick off.
