Karl Stefanovic Got Destroyed By Tom Gleeson On The Final ‘Hard Chat’ Of The Year Last Night

Last night marked the year’s final episode of Charlie Pickering’s The Weekly, and correspondent Tom Gleeson managed to snare an extremely high-profile guest for the last segment of ‘Hard Chat’ to air for a while: Karl Stefanovic. ‘Hard Chat’ has produced some of The Weekly‘s most brutally funny and plain brutal moments; Gleeson’s interview with Mamamia founder Mia Freedman was particularly cringey, in the way that a really good episode of the British Office could be.

But with arguably his most high-profile guest yet in Stefanovic, Gleeson had more than an interviewee to make squirm: he had a foil. Stefanovic constantly veers between flawless deadpan and dissolving into giggles fairly regularly on the Today Show, and that kind of energy lends itself gloriously well to a format like ‘Hard Chat’. That said, Gleeson undoubtedly had the best one-liners prepared — his sledge on Stefanovic’s hosting of Channel nine’s disastrous Q&A-lite experiment The Verdict is beautiful, and there is never a bad time to comment on the hilarity of Richard Wilkins’ chronically oversized head.
