Sony Pictures Animation is developing K-Pop: Demon Hunters, a new movie about a group of young female K-Pop stars who slay evil demons between gigs.

The upcoming film will follow a world-renowned K-Pop girl group as they attempt to balance their lives in the spotlight with their secret identities as badass demon hunters. It will be an animated musical and it’s being made by the Oscar-winning studio behind Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. The company shared a peek at some of the official concept art below.

While stars are yet to be attached, directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will be directing the film. Kang’s previous credits include Rise of the Guardians and The Lego Ninjago Movie. She told Variety, “Having been a fan of the genre since its beginnings in the ’90s, this film is my love letter to K-Pop and my Korean roots. It encompasses and celebrates everything K-Pop is.”

Joining Kang as co-director is Chris Appelhans. His previous credits include award-winning animations, Fantastic Mr Fox and The Princess and the Frog. “I’ve always wanted to do a film about the power of music,” Appelhans said in a statement. “K-Pop is the greatest embodiment of this in our lifetime.”

Along with Kang and Appelhans, Oscar-winning producer, Aron Warner, producer of Shrek is also attached. Artistically, K-Pop: Demon Hunters will be helmed by production designer Mingjue Helen Chen (Raya and the Last Dragon, Big Hero 6). Art director Ami Thompson (Raya and the Last Dragon, Ralph Breaks the Internet) is also on the team.

People are already fan casting their biases, from BlackPink’s Jisoo to the girls from Dreamcatcher. Unfortunately, this soon to be iconic animated demon-hunting musical is yet to have a release date, but the very concept K-Pop: Demon Hunters will be fueling my will to live for until we know more.
