Look, I’ve covered some strange fan conspiracy theories in my time but this one takes the cake! So allow me to take a deep breath before I unpack what a dead member of the British royal family and a famous K-pop singer have in common.

Okay, so TikTok has been utterly gripped with a viral conspiracy theory that posits a prominent K-pop singer has been possessed by the reincarnated soul of deceased English royal Princess Diana.

It seems that while we’ve been busy living our lives, the fandom of the world’s biggest boy band BTS has been overcome by the startling similarities between the K-pop group’s youngest member Jungkook, and Princess Diana, who died in a car accident the day before Jungkook was born.

A video montage posted on TikTok has collated the available evidence supporting the reincarnation theory, which ranges from benign stuff like mannerisms the pair share, and Jungkook’s apparent obsession with royal iconography.

Now that the floodgates are well and truly open on this important social discourse, BTS fans are discovering more and more unusual coincidences they claim support the theory that knowingly or not, Jungkook’s physical form is but a conduit for the soul of Princess Diana.

So Dharma drama aside, what happens now? Will Jungkook be asked to identify a correct sequence of sacred objects from Princess Di’s life to prove his divinity, akin to the process of discovering an ascendant Dali Lama? Will Trisha Paytas’s newborn baby Malibu Barbie — who punters theorise is actually Queen Elizabeth due to proximity between the pair’s respective birth and death dates — emerge to challenge Jungkook in a battle between good and evil?

Perhaps the only thing that really matters at this point, dear reader, is the fact that this issue has definitely come to the attention of BTS’s management by now, and probably perplexes them in equal measure.
