Josh Thomas Just Confirmed It: ‘Please Like Me’ Is Over

After the spectacular fourth season of Please Like Me aired late last year, there was a lot of speculation that it may be the show’s last. Their US network, Pivot, had gone under. At just six episodes, it was shorter than those which had come before. And, for reasons that I won’t totally spoil here, there was a sense of finality about it.

Now, Josh Thomas has confirmed it. In a statement just posted to social media, he said “the other producers and I have decided that Season 4 of Please Like Me is the last”. “We decided this because we are really happy with what we’ve made and feel like it is complete.”

“I want to thank everyone who has watched the show and sent me a friendly note,” Thomas said. “This show is so intensely personal, it recreated the most intimate moments of my life and lays them out for anyone to watch. Seeing how people have connected with this show has been tremendously confidence building for me and I’m really grateful for that. Thank you.”

The comedian and writer (who had also recently taken on a role as director) also thanked his fellow cast and crew as well as his parents. “They’ve been incredibly supportive of this show even though it sometimes makes them look like twats,” he said.

“This show has brought me so much joy and I’m sad it’s over but also things have to end. I’m focussing now on what’s next, I hope to see you there.”

Thomas’ costar and cowriter Tom Ward has also thanked fans on Twitter:

Please Like Me will be remembered as a hilarious and heartbreaking sitcom that was groundbreaking in its portrayal of sexuality and mental health; it was also unusually true to life. This weekend seems like a pretty good time to hit Netflix, binge it all, and have a little cry.
