Josh Cavallo Politely Destroyed An Anti-Trans Organisation That Tried To Hijack His Coming Out
There is truly nothing like seeing a footballer ratio an anti-trans group with a single hashtag. Iconic.
Adelaide United player Josh Cavallo has beautifully shut down an anti-trans group that tried to “applaud his courage” for coming out as gay.
Two weeks after Josh Cavallo made history as the first male Australian football player to come out as gay while still playing at a professional level, the footballer clapped back at LGB Alliance for its open history of transphobia.
On October 27 the ‘charity’ group, whose name entirely erases the transgender part of the LGBTQ+ acronym, praised Cavallo for the “courage” the footballer showed by coming out as the only active gay professional male player in the world.
“We applaud the courage of Josh Cavallo and hope he inspires others,” LGB Alliance tweeted alongside a link to a BBC article about Cavallo’s coming out story. “Here’s to a time when society as a whole can look back and wonder why anyone felt the need to hide who they love.”
“#LGBwiththeT,” Cavallo tweeted back 10 days later with a heart and flexing emoji to show his support for the trans people that the LGB Alliance likes to erase and make feel like they need to stay hidden.
Cavallo’s response has gained over 25,000 likes while LGB Alliance’s tweet is hovering under 1,000.

Unfortunately, even though the LGB Alliance’s message of support to Cavallo may have been well-meaning, the British advocacy group’s transphobia overshadows any good they try to do.
Describing themselves as a group of lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals who spend their “entire lives campaigning for equality for people with same-sex sexual orientation”, LGB Alliance believes that “biological sex is observed in the womb and/or at birth and is not assigned”.
The LGB Alliance also claims that “attempts to introduce confusion between biological sex and the notion of gender” are basically “a threat” to gay rights and that gender ideologies are “confusing and dangerous to children”.
Beyond their backwards core beliefs, the anti-trans organisation also strongly opposes gender identity being taught in schools, are against treatments being offered to kids experiencing gender dysphoria and even tried to ban Scotland’s Gender Recognition Bill reform that would make it easier for trans people to legally update their gender.
So, it’s really no surprise that Cavallo wants absolutely zero to do with the transphobic organisation and wholeheartedly supports the #LGBwiththeT campaign.
I can’t decide what I admire more – him coming out in that sport or his ability to ratio you with nought but a hashtag.#LGBWithTheT

Of course, the TERF group didn’t enjoy being shut down and ratioed by someone like Cavallo, who they assumed they could appropriate to peddle their transphobia. So LGB Alliance decided to double down with the worst response in history.
“This probably required slightly less courage to tweet than your brave coming out 11 days ago,” the charity, which has been described as a ‘hate group’ by other LGBTQ+ organisations, embarrassingly tweeted in response.
“But that’s absolutely fine. We believe the defence of gay requires a specifically LGB organisation. But there’s nothing wrong with respectful disagreement,” they passive-aggressively ended their tweet.
As expected, the group was again dragged for their shitty attempt at discrediting the very courage they originally praised Cavallo for showing before he confirmed he supported his trans siblings.
Hi ? this probably required slightly less courage to tweet than your brave coming out; 11 days ago. But that’s absolutely fine. We believe the defence of gay rights requires a specifically LGB organisation. But there’s nothing wrong with respectful disagreement. Much love. X
