Celebrity chefs: they’re just like us.

Getting lazy with the washing up, occasionally giving up and having toast for dinner, almost setting the kitchen on fire … we’ve all been there, right?

Aussie chef John Torode is here to prove you’re not alone, after accidentally starting a fire live on television while filming an isolation cooking segment for British brekky program This Morning.

He’s now going viral for the way he calmly put it out while hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield hyperventilated from the studio.

John is famous in the UK for being a judge on their version of Masterchef, and he appeared on This Morning to give his take on the humble sausage and egg McMuffin. For weeks the Maccas classic has been out of reach for Brits after lockdown forced their restaurants to close.

John was only minutes into his demonstration when a tea towel left on his stovetop caught fire while his back was turned.

Due to the audio delay he couldn’t hear the hosts yelling at him, and continued calmly putting his muffins in the toaster as flames shot up behind him.

You can literally feel their anxiety as they try to warn him, but it also was very funny to watch.

To his credit, John was calm even after realising he’d almost lit his kitchen on fire, and continued on steaming his eggs after dropping the flaming tea towel in the sink.

Unfortunately about ten seconds later he was interrupted again by his fire alarm.

The segment quickly went viral — he even got a shoutout from an English fire station which gave an important PSA about the importance of working fire alarms.

I say, let he who has never almost accidentally set their house on fire cast the first stone.
