Taylor Swift recently released an updated recording of her album Red which has sent the internet into an absolute frenzy, especially after the brand new music video for breakup ballad ‘All Too Well’.

Red (Taylor’s Version) included a 10-minute version of ‘All Too Well’ a song rumoured to be about Jake Gyllenhaal which once again led to their 2010 romance being speculated about. It has, of course, led to many memes.

Now that the dust has settled again somewhat on Taylor and Jake, Swifties have also been turning their attention to none other than John Mayer who Taylor dated in 2009 and who ‘Dear John’ is allegedly written about.

The TL;DR if you’re new to the John and Taylor saga is that the two musicians dated back in 2009 when Taylor was 19 and John was 32. While they were only together for a short time, the relationship left enough impact for a song to be written, with the lyrics to ‘Dear John’ pointedly calling out Mayer for his behaviour.

“Dear John, I see it all, now it was wrong/Don’t you think 19 is too young/to be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so?” Taylor sings in the track.

Mayer has addressed the song in later years, saying he was caught off-guard by the track and dismissed it as “cheap” songwriting.

Moving on, after the re-release of the ‘All Too Well’ music video, Swifties are anticipating what could possibly be coming for John Mayer.

Many of the memes and jokes about John Mayer were relatively harmless, however, it turns out people have also been sliding into his DMs with abusive messages.

Screenshots have now been shared across Twitter and Tiktok showing John Mayer actually responding to fans, asking one in particular ‘Do you really hope I die?’

According to this article by BuzzFeed, the first message to Mayer said, “Fuck yourself you ugly bitch, I hope you choke on something.”

After John replied, the fan backtracked and apologised saying it was a dare and she didn’t expect him to see the message.

Taylor Swift fans have been quick to state that this kind of behaviour isn’t reflective of the fandom. And some fans have called on Taylor to address things before any further escalations.

Maybe we should all just have a cup of tea and calm down and sob while listening to how good the 10-minute version of ‘All Too Well’ is? Just an idea.
